    I like to use it to remove the FD without breaking the chain.

    More experienced mechanics use it as a chain whip flux adjuster.

    With that screw you don't need to split apart the chain if you want to change/adjust/clean etc. your front derailleur.

    Thanks, thought so but wanted to be sure.

  5. I rotate 4 chains, at 1k kls intervals, with a 500k clean between changes, which is when I remove that screw without breaking the chain. I lay the bike down & pull the chain out the back to clean it in a flat buiscut tray using degreaser.
