  1. .... I mean it's questions time!!!😉

    1. With my SPD-SL shoes, I need to install the plastic base plate on the shoes so the cleats can fit. My question: is there sidi shoes type where I do not need to install the plastic base plate rather install the cleats straight onto the sole?

I feel like wearing a high heel shoes, only the heel is in the front:p Hoping that by removing the plastic base plate I may have less height.

    2. Which grease is best for the pedal?

    3. In the case of tube for tires, what considerations I should put in? in other words, which tube do you like best for your bike😄?

    Thank you! I'll see you next time! I'm off to lala-land now ^^;;

I've been using Sidi's and Speedplays for nearly a decade now - and all I have ever used was the little waffer thin "sidi shoe adapter wedge" which isn't much at all. Possibly you haven't or have over read the instruction page...

Otherwise you may need to attach a picture of what you have going on

  3. I don't have the pedal's manual, I bought it second hand, but there's the cleat manual.

My SPD-SL has 3 screw holes on the sole, since Speedplay is 4 screws, I need to install the base bracket that give adapter from 3 holes to 4 holes.

What I'm wondering is which Sidi shoes provide the options to use 3 holes cleat or 4 hole cleat without using the adapter.

You have the "Sidi" shims that go to the fore and aft of the Speedplay cleat base plate, they take up the minor curvature differences of the base plate o the cleat and the shoe. These are mounted between the bottom of the shoe and the base layer.

The base plate also is the fore and aft adjustment for your Speedplay cleat. The 3 "holes" should be slotted. There should also be a mark on the plate that you should have lined up with the ball of your foot /base of your great toe. Once you have that lined up, you apply the top layer.

The top layer has the Al wear plate, retaining springs, and the composite body that holds it all together. This piece has the 4 bolts and is the side to side adjustment of the speed play cleat. Normally start with the bolts centered in the slots, and work the fit from there.

Ensure you have some blue loctite on hand so you don’t have to put so much torque on the bolts for them to stay in place. Over tightening can damage the shoe, and interfere with the operation of the cleat.

If you bought the Speedplays used, be sure to check the cleats, if the springs, have been flattened they are worn and should be replaced. The spring steel should be round. If the cleat springs are severely flattened take a look at the pedals and check the slots where the metal retaining piece is, if the metal retaining piece has a groove, or is uneven, you got ripped off, the pedals are shot. The rebuild kit includes everything but the metal clip…

My old set of X2s has about 60,000 miles on them, and I went through about 5 sets of cleats, and the pedals are just beginning to take on an uneven edge. That’ll give you an idea of what kind of wear they’ll hold up to if you keep them fairly clean and lubed once in a while.

  5. So there is no way I can get rid of the base plate then to reduce some height of the cleat?
    Thanks much for the explaination!🙂

and have them work properly and not ruin your shoes - I'm guessing not.

you'd also loose the ability to adjust the cleat fore and aft - which is more imporant than you might think.

if the "stack height" is a lot more than your old system you may need to consider raising your saddle to meet the difference. A few mm I'm going to guess.

The cleats aren't that bad to walk on once you learn how to use the square back edge.

not sure I follow you - all the Sidi shoes are going to have only three holes and require the sandwich the makes up the Speedplay cleat.

it's not trouble - that why this forum is here

Don't worry, you do follow what I meant 😉 Basically what I understand is I would still attach the base plate (the 3-hole to 4-hole adapter) on the shoes, correct?

  10. yep - it's the natural order of things

  11. Conti supersonic tubes in my race wheels, vittoria whatever tubes in my others. Use heavy HEAVY tubes for training, and you will feel a massive difference.
