Hi
Just thought I'd report back to the group - with thanks to those that
contributed to my thread (entitled "Wales for a not-quite-beginner"😉
that turned into a conversation about somehow putting a rack on the back
of my 10+-year-old bike without the appropriate mounting points. I took
the various bits of advice and ordered one of the Blackburn MTN 1 racks
and appropriate 'p-clips' along with an Altura 16l basic pannier. (Just
to add my voice to the praise-wiggle thread; I ordered from Wiggle late
on a Sunday night and received them on Tuesday, which is pretty good. I
did work out that I could get them slightly cheaper elsewhere, but in
this instance I think the service is what you're paying for!)
So, yeah, back to the rack... I managed to mount it with relative ease
and took it out on a 17m ride yesterday
(www.scandrett.net/bike/ride21.html) and it worked well. It took me a
little getting used to, and the bag did jump off at one point. Upon
remounting it I found a velcro strap which is designed to stop that,
oops! Overall it was helpful having it; I was surprised that it did seem
to affect the weight of the bike but then I suppose it wasn't on my
back, so it's 50:50. I'll get used to it, I expect.
Thanks to those who gave advice - I appreciate it!
Peter
