actually 2 different issues but i'm posting both in the same forum for the sake of efficiency.
pt one
i'm about to take my diamondback wildwood in to the shop for the 3rd time since i bought it last june. the first time, i returned it to sport's authority where i bought it. there was something that needed to be tightened in the crankcase. they were resistant to take the bike apart because they couldn't tell there was a problem. i persisted and sure enough, they found and fixed the problem. yesterday, for the 2nd time, a spoke broke away from the rear hub. the rim is now warped. the first time this happened, i took it to the lbs and they were nice enough to repair (not replace) the rim under warranty. i hope they do so again.
the tech said that this happens occasionally and that there really isn't anything i'm doing (or not doing) to cause it. now that it has happened a 2nd time, i wonder if this is a symptom of a larger problem. has anyone had this problem before?
pt two
needless to say, i'm disappointed with my purchase. i bought the bike for exercise. i wasn't willing to spend much more than the $225 at the time. now, riding is more of a love or lifestyle. i'll be buying my next bike at the lbs. my question is this, which comfort or hybrid bike makes/models would you rate well that are in the $400 range?
here are those i've researched so far;
schwinn - voyager, sierra and supersport
gt - timberline, nomad (and possibly the zum 4.0)
specialized - exp sport, xroads sport and sirrus
trek - the 7000 series, 7.2 fx and the nav 2.0 or 3.0
i noticed on the lbs' website that they are offering a 90 day no payments/no interest deal on trek bikes and parts. if i were to use that deal, i might increase my limit to $500.
what are your thoughts/experiences with these makes/models? what other makes/models would you recommend i look into?
thank you in advance!
