Is there a plus/neutral/negative view on 2-a-days? I'm not asking in terms of forcing more training adaptations, but as someone who might not have 2.5 hours of time either before or after work, but can maybe spare an hour before work and 1.5 after. Given that scenario, is breaking up the 2.5 hours the same, better, or worse?

Joe Friel states that this can be a beneficial way to train, but it is very important to get a nap between so that your body can use the time at sleep to send the hormones (?) to rebuild muscle. This way your body rebuilds muscle twice a day instead of once (nightime sleep).

I've split L4 workout days in this manner and I think it would be beneficial for L5/6 as well.
Lower intensities, I believe, are best trained contiguously ....

rmur,
After I posted I started thinking about it and that would have been my guess, at least certainly about the lower intensity stuff. Good to know about the L4/5/6 areas since that would probably be more of my focus on weekdays anyway.
Thanks.

I'm starting to use two a days about 4 days a week to help jumpstart my metabolism in the morning. I'm not doing any real structure to it, just 30 to 40 minutes on the trainer with a 10 minute warm up, 25 minutes at 200-230 watts and then a 5 minute cool down. It helps wake me up in the morning, and my coach and i think it will help shed those last few pounds.

Now thats a cool idea. Would sure help to justify a big breakfast!! I get up to late every morning as it is (my daughters my alram clock and she goes off at 7 to 7:40) and i should really get up at 6:30.

Yeah, i like my sleep too, some teammates get up at 4:30-5 and get their entire workout in before breakfast, there is no way i can do that, so i normally get up about 10 after 6, hit the snooze once or twice and am out of bed by 6:25, now i just set the alarm for 5:30 and don't hit the snooze, get on the computrainer for a 30 minute workout and feel fresh and ready to go for the rest of the day. Key is to start it and keep doing it till it becomes a routine, i havn't gotten to that point yet, but havn't missed a day for two weeks, so i'm getting there.

There's an old saw that says it takes 3 weeks to make a habit...
