Yup, it was a real highlight seeing Eddy at the Melbourne Bike Show/Sun Tour.

Still what struck me the most was how underwhelmed he looked (for want of a better expression) as about 100 people lined up to get an autograph. I didn't have the heart to join them...

And I agree for a man who's the greatest cyclist ever - he is extremely modest in company.

Why didn't you cue to get his autograph?

Agree on the modesty, no airs at all. What I meant by "underwhelmed" was that he didn't look like he was exactly enjoying the experience that much (no smile). I guess when you're in that much demand...

Personally I'm not much of an autrograph man myself, and seeing all those folks lined up made me want to give him a break. I was content to just lay eyes on him (he looks really slim now BTW) and his bikes (I want one now) was enough for me.

I met him at a bike store on a promotional tour many years ago. He autographed my sling (broken shoulder). I wore that sling for the longest time, then kept it in my car until it got moldy.

I was lucky, I was about fifth in line! He signed a replica Giro leaders jersey for me. Three of the guys in front of me were very good Aussie domestic pros in the 1980's and it was funny to watch them acting like little fanboys in the presence of the great man, heh heh.

It was a good read wasn't it? I love seeing or reading about cycling elite in my neighbourhood. I got similarly excited when the Jayco tour did the ITT around the corner from my house...now I have a time to beat!

I love the bit where he rode past a kid and said "nice bike"...priceless!
