Agreed. I meant send the forces perceived as an "occupation force"

I agree that's the right thing to do (the "Power Pottery Barn
Doctrine"😉 but can it be done? Maybe it's not even possible? And
maybe just leaving militarily would make stability easier.

In retrospect, I don't think so. He was a brilliant soldier, but didn't
put away the mentality in civilian life. His bogus presentation to the
UN was what started the mass murder in Iraq. He knew it was wrong, but
was still using "yes, SIR!" logic when it came to Arbusto's orders.

Such a post requires a certain level of independence, but not the kind
Rumsy has, his was simply contrarian and misinformed.

Powell, for all his past wisdom, and there was much, is morally
culpable for the deaths of hundreds of thousands. He blew it.

confirmation) being replaced by GHWB appointee Robert Gates, can John

replaced by Brent Scowcroft and James Baker III? While their ideologies
of the latter two may not be much different from the former two, at
least they are highly competent realists.
