Iran's nutcase president's views on that issue? If you really think that Israel playing nice is the answer, I'd
suggest looking at what happened when Israel pulled out of lots of the
occupied land (hint - it included thousands of rockets fired into
Isreali civilian centers).Simple question: what is the rational basis for the USA's unwavering
support of the State of Israel? Where is it in our national self
interest? Do the negatives (understandable Muslim hostility toward the
US) outweigh the positives (are there any positives, in reality?).
Our support is for a democratic, "western-style" democracy that was
formed by UN mandate in the 40's. We'd also support Singapore if it
came under attack from Malaysia. Our national self-interest lies in a
world of interconnected democracies who are more interested in
furthering their aims via commerce than conflict.
The "Palestinian issue" is just smoke and mirrors - it would be
ridiculously simple for the Arab states in the area to create a
Palestinian state - but only if that were the real issue. Instead,
they "supported" the Palestinians by making them part of an attempted
invasion of Israel, and then turning their backs on them when they got
routed by the smaller Isreali forces.
The Palestinians were offered almost everything they ever asked for
back when Clinton was trying to broker a deal - and they walked away
from the table. It's not a matter of working out peaceful
co-existence - it's a simple matter of Israel's existence.
Besides, if you really think that if Israel packed up and left the
area would "fix the problem", you haven't read up on the Al Qaida
charter. They'll stop only when the entire planet is converted to a
Taliban-style caliphate. I'm betting you'd have a problem with
that...
