1. Thor Hushovd doesnt quite see eye to eye with Levi on this it seems. When asked what he thought about disco signing basso during a book launch Thor replied "Yes it's ridiculous. I hope I'll never see him again".

Right on Thor ! Be interesting next year how the riders react to Basso.... I can see some of them refusing to race if his riding next to them....... I can tell you that when I go to the Giro next year and Basso is there I will spit at his feet and heckle him..... he owes me £1000 from last year's trip which was a waste of money considering the top 2 were on the gear along with many others...

I'm with you on this. If I go to the Giro again next year I will boo the wee [censored]. And fat Ulle too, and Tugboat Hamilton...

"I think it's absurd", Gilbert says in Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws. "The rumors of the Fuentes-case have been confirmed, haven't they?"
"Now riders like Jan Ullrich and Ivan Basso have the nerve to ask for permission to race again. And when I hear what their wages will be I get completely disgusted."

Yeah. The same way they wouldn't ride next to Virenque, or Millar. Gimme a break. 🙄

So, do you think Thor's never hit the juice before. No pro rider is above suspicion. I think they justify it one way or the other.

7. It would have been interesting to see what would have been said if Basso had signed with any team other than Discovery.

And supposing Jan signs with a protour team? Will there be a similar fuss?

It's hard to tell about Basso and Disco. It seemed before he got signed that no pro tour team was going to sign. You'd think the teams would have made a fuss when all the rumors where flying.

If Jan signs with a pro tour team, then that'll break whatever gentleman's agreement was made.

Basso would be welcome in a French team or other and if he agrees to follow the french control. It would make a sign ...
But he prefers to find a better doctor, he made another sign.😠

This brings up a good idea: I think we all ought to submit bills to the riders for the money we spent on going to watch their fraudulent performances.

I hope Basso's famiy is aware of the incredible range of untested and dangerous pharmaceuticals he puts into his body in order to cheat other riders, deceive his fans, and feed his ego. What a jerk.

I can feel a class action coming on...... the people vs Basso........ scumbag !

Tasteless as usual .... are there no depths to which you will plunge? 😕

Are there no depths Landis, Basso et al will plunge ? Sticking needles in their arms in a backroad hotel on a rest day to transfuse blood mixed with drugs ! Do you really think think these guys have any respect for me, you or themselves ? I'll spit at the feet of a junkie who cheated me out of my holiday. Basso is scum. Its now up to him to gain my respect back by telling the truth.

14. Are you sitting on the irrefutable proof of Basso's doping? You should share it with the UCI, and the Italian authorities since they evidently don't have any and/or haven't made any public.

How about an expose WBT. Your public awaits ...

And you are defending Basso on what basis? Did I miss the memo from the crazy conspiracy theorists that the French are out to frame Italians now, too? Was Dr. Fuentes hoarding bags of blood for his own personal vampire smoothie business? Or do you actually believe that elite ProTour level cyclists race cleanly?

The pendulum of guilt swung to Basso and he defended himself by.... Refusing to take a DNA test or to explain himself. Sorry, man, but Basso is playing the game like all the other cheaters: deny everything but explain nothing. Just another cheating, lying, scum.

...there is more evidence to suggest Basso was blood doping than not. The Italian federation didn't press charges not due to the fact that Basso wasn't doping but due to the fact that their wasn't a law to apply to bring about a "convict" - something that occurs everyday in law. Current federation anti-doping law are written around positive A & B samples not faxes and phonecalls.

We saw the transcripts of the phonecalls, we saw the bank statements, we saw the faxes and finally we saw his performances in the Giro. What do you think ? Did he dope ? Did he transfuse as the evidence suggest ?

If Basso could ride next year after Spanish court validate these proofs, we as spectators can sue Basso ! We need to do it, if those cheaters and liars can win with bad technicalities...

As Hamilton did, fans can give money to help us!

Can someone translate this for me? Thanks.

19. One can only hope that any idiot braying for someone to surrender their rights is as reckless when they are under the spotlight. Especially, if they are so stupid as to submit to a DNA test without ever having been legally charged with any offence or found to have failed a drug test!

Clowns, talk to any lawyer and he'll give you the same advice. Guilty or innocent there is one course of action: shut up, and don't submit to any invasions of your privacy or personal rights. Its up to the authorities to prove someone's guilt. Lacking any formal charges, why should anyone attempt to prove their "innocence". To placate idiots/bashers on the forums?

Once again, show us some public evidence of Basso, JU, et al., having failed any drug test or having been found guilty of blood doping. To date, there has been no proof. Put up or shut up.

I guess it all comes down to the burden of proof required based on the potential sanctions and the prior probability of guilt.

If we are trying to convict a murderer, then a high burden of proof is required due to the high level of punishment and the fact that very few people are murderers making the prior probability relatively low.

Doping among professional athletes in big $$$ sports is a slightly different kettle of fish. The prior probability is very high, especially in certain sports like professional wrestling, Major League Baseball, olympic level sprinting, professional cycling, many codes of football etc. The punishments - eg 2 year bans - are not huge. Hence the burden of proof may legitimately be lowered.

Also need to look at the burden of proof based on who is making the verdict. If it is for a verdict by the UCI, then the burden is much higher than that required for the court of public opinion. Most of us are realistic enough to know that a large number of cyclists are on the juice. If Dr Fuentes has bags of blood with your code name on it, we can put two and two together. Even if it is not enough to lead to a sanction, it is still sufficient proof for me to decide that I think that rider is more guilty than I'd previously believed.
