  1. I am just curious... I know someone whose son is about 300 lbs at 18 years old. That kid started to
get fat around the beginning of puberty (5th grade) and got to 300 lbs. Is there any possible
medical condition that manifests itself like this?

Short and painful answer. He got fat by eating more calories then his body needed over time.
Whatever else might be going on, that is the ultimate mechanism. He'll have to come to terms with
that if he ever wishes to lose that weight.

A somewhat more complicated one. Food intake and appetite control is a very complex system. Even in
the modern toxic food environment, that system keeps many people at a stable weight without
conscious effort to control food intake. Sometimes something happens to throw that system off. It
might be a good idea to have him tested to see if he has an endocrine disorder such as
hypothyroidism or Cushings disease as those can sometimes be corrected. However, none of those cause
the body to make adipose tissue out of thin air so he'll still have to come to terms with his over
    consumption.

Yes, but dollars to donuts, he is simply overconsuming.

Yes. It is called obesity. He needs to see a nutritionist NOW.

Yep probably many. Has he been checked out medically?

Of course the most common cause is eating too many calories and doing too little exercise.
