Is there such a thing as a quality fold up bicycle that would be good enough for doing a reasonable amount of riding on around the villages of Vietnam Cambodia etc? They would also need carry two bags that would take a combined 20kgs of medical instruments and supplies.
Money is not really an issue, functionality and quality is.
My colleague and wife are looking to use bicycles now they are getting older and make it easier to cart the instruments and supplies for the 5 week periods they work there.

Bike Fridays are reasonably popular amongst serious cyclists in Oz who need a folding bike. They are designed and built for long distance touring. My wife and I both have Pocket Llama's and I use mine almost every day. Highly recommended, but quite expensive, although the price is subject to variation caused by fluctuating exchange rates.
There is a Bike Friday club in Australia and I'm sure there are links to it from the web site.
The alternative is a normal bike (steel frame) fitted with S & S couplings which enable you to break the frame.
You may find Christies Cycles in Melbourne can help you with the S & S other wise St john's cycles in the UK do it (and I can recommend their bikes).

I met a guy in Adelaide who had a Brompton and he was very happy with it. We compared notes as he had the same SRAM rear hub as I have on the BF. I think the Brompton is cheaper than the BF's, but the BF's seem to be more popular in Oz.
I recently saw six or seven BF's on a BikeSA tour of Kangaroo Island., one couple I talked to had flown their BF tandem across from Sydney and reported no problems getting it in and out of the hard case.
