As some may have read on a previous post. I recently completed the Alpine
Delight. On the return leg from Omeo, over Hotham to Bright, we arrived at
Dinner Plain for our final checkpoint pretty well spent.
What to drink?
I usually can't stomach anything but water and eating bits of food as I'm
riding and leave the Gatorade type of drinks (and/or coffee) at stops. Well
this time a fellow rider told me to just have a couple of cokes and see what
happens. I would have thought the Gatorade type drinks being so called
formulated for sports, would be better but I really believed the coke had
just as good if not better effect. There was still 15k from Dinner Plain to
the highest point on the road at Hotham and to my surprise I rode that 15K
quite comfortably although obviously a little tired. Was it my imagination?
So what would most out there drink on tough rides?
I think I'll give coke a few more try's before I'm converted.
I know coke has been around for years but I've only been riding for a
relatively short time where energy drinks have always been available and as
we're all told, this is what they're formulated for. Apparently Red Bull
type of drinks have the same effect as coke and wonder as they both have
caffeine, would that be the difference as I do believe Gatorade/PowerAde,
etc exclude caffeine.
