After reading Coggan and Hunter's book and listening to all of you rave about training with power, I cannot help but desire to do the same. I am a college student on a budget so obtaining one of these bad boys is going to be a challenge if I want to stay within my budget. I prefer to stick with the PT because it is the cheapest of actual measured power meters (I prefer to stay away from devises that only estimate based on formulas). I want a unit that is reliable. I do not ride outdoors if weather is nasty but I do need a unit that will hold up in case I get caught in rain or have to ride through puddles. I see that performance has the PT pro built on an open pro rim for 999$ and with a 20% coupon I would only be paying 800$. I do not care about not having an aero wheel so the open pro is fine. The other option that seems to be the cheapest is ebay. What model do you guys suggest? I would like to be able to purchase the PT and all necesarry accessories (including stuff needed to download my info to my computer) along with cyclingpeaks wko+. Are all recent models coming with coded HR monitors? Any other things I should look out for/stay away from?

SL is the best choice atm.
Far too many issues with the 2.4.
If you can wait a few months Saris are upgrading the whole line up. -
I think I'm going to stick with "feel". I don' have any batteries to keep on replacing, no complete units to send back to Saris, no loose wires etc. etc. etc.

I do all my training and racing on a PT Pro / Open Pro setup without any issues whatsoever, so I would say that any of the PT line would do fine at our level. Which model is best depends entirely on price point, IMO.

I'm not sure anymore. I bought mine directly through analyticcycling.com ~18mos ago. They had a good deal on a setup bundled with Cycling Peaks software, but I don't know if that purchasing channel (heck, or even website) is still available. -

I got my new PT Pro with Open pro rim on Ebay a couple of years ago for about $600. It's been totally bombproof and accurate for many 1000's of miles. -
