I've started MTB-ing recently and am getting into it (I've cycled for leisure for the past few years) I've been riding a Trek 3700 which really isn't doing me any favours and I want to buy a better bike. I've decided on a Trek XTC 3.5 or 2.5 but I'm not exactly sure on which model. I want to buy a decent bike that will serve some years at a medium level but I don't want to spend an unnecessary ammount either. I'd sort of settled on the 3.5 but somebody told me that the breaks are problematic and the 2.5 has much better breaks. Has anyone got any opinons? Is it worth spending the extra €250 on better breaks and forks?
