I have a titanium framed bike and one of the bottle bosses has come loose, rotating in the frame. I believe this to be a rivnut, as shown at http://www.beewee.co.uk/robsbriefings-1-1.pdf Searching on Google for a bike shop to replace it has been unhelpful.
Does anyone know of a bike shop in North Notts or reasonably close by that could fit a new one for me?

It may also help if you search for nutserts as these items are commonly known as.
We use them extensively in panel building, unfortunately not in your area. It may be worth enquiring at a local panel builders .

Do you still have the one that was in there? Can you just bond it back into the frame using some JB Weld?

If you can still get a bolt in and out: Screw in a m5 bolt with a washer and a nut. (bolt-nut-washer-rivnut)
Hold the bolt and tighten down the nut. This will compress the rivnut again

Thanks Marten, but I tried this and with very little force I stripped the thread. It had an alloy hex nut in it that had corroded, so I struggled to get that out without breaking it.

You may not want to hear this .... but you can buy a Rivnut tool for about £20 (usually on eBay) - mine is from Laser Tools at Southam, Warwicks (they are importers but could give you a supplier)

OK. I've found a Laser tool to do the job, complete with what I assume are the correct rivets for the job... Now, anyone have an idea as to how to remove the old rivnut without a piece of metal dropping into the frame and rattling for ever more?

Doesn't the bottom end of the tube open into the bottom bearing shell? I'm sure mine does.

On mine it doesn't 'open' into the BB shell, there is only a +/- 3mm hole. More a pressure relief hole for welding during manufacture, I'd guess. I've had the BB out this weekend to see. Still, I guess it may be easier to open this hole a little and shake the piece out than to extract the rivet through a hole half way up the bottom frame tube. There is a weld all the way round the BBshell where it meets the frame so I surmise that opening the hole to say 6-8mm will not weaken the frame in any way.
I have heard of jammed aluminium seatposts being removed from titanium frames by filling with concentrated Caustic Soda (Sodium Hydroxide) and waiting for the aluminium to dissolve. Does this seems a little drastic for a rivet, though?

You could check at the other end too where it joins the head tube.

Why not squeeze a bit of grease in through the hole? The rivet will still be in there but it will stick to the grease, which will stop it rattling.
I just wanted to thank everyone for the helpful advice. I now have a Rivnut/Nutsert tool from eBay for £20 and I have also managed to extract the old rivet in two pieces, leaving the frame completely undamaged. Job done!
