I just finished my first marathon, NYC or otherwise. It was a tremendous experience. Finished much slower than I intended (4:41:13/10'43"😉 as I backed off a bit to deal with the heat. But, I never felt a hint of the dreaded "wall" and am pleased with my first effort. I'll be getting married next year around this time, so no marathon for me. But I want to get back in 2005 and break four hours.
I've posted a website about the day featuring a great video shot by my brother.

Hey, great job! Good strategy taking it slower in the heat -- sounds as if you did the right thing. And hey, why not get married during next year's race?!

I'd factor the marathon into the wedding plans. Without some outlet you will go nuts. 😉

good one paul. congrats. the first one is like a first baby.
the fact that you didn't notice the wall is probably a good thing and a bad thing. good thing is you didn't have to suffer thru' it. bad thing is it might mean that you didn't push yourself to what you are capable of. which is a good thing from the point of view of the future.
i notice that you wrote the report without a single reference to p.diddy ;-) i'll refrain from it myself.
about marriage and marathon, why not make it a "run for your wife" event?
you might still want to consider running smaller races during the next year.
