Yes. Looks really scary (riding north). Wuss out is possible, ride
home very late (midnight) also possible. time will tell.....

Left work early (6:10pm Canberra) after glancing at the radar. A Thin
band of colour with a white sheet following, never seen that before.
Nearing home the wind picked up, 10 minutes after I was home the rain
arrived.

It was stinking hot, dry, and a nice tailwind this morning - but I got
pretty wet tonight going home and the headwind was a killer. It normally
takes me around the 50 min mark to get home along the Yarra Trail but
tonight it took me 1h05m. I was feeling a bit flat anyway but the wind was
pretty bad too.

Nearly came off on the way home. I was heading down the "goat track" that
heads down from the Yarra Blvd to the shared path under the Chandler Hwy. I
was going a bit too fast and had both brakes on to ditch some speed -
everything was going OK until I went over the small drop-off (about 4 inches
or so) where the anti-erosion step is. When the rear wheel got momentarily
airborne it locked up and the back end slid out. I was on the hardtail that
has a 1.9" semi slick on the front and a 1.5" IRC Metro slick on the rear.
The back wheel slid to the left and I managed to unclip my right foot and
started dabbing the ground for all I was worth. Everything happened pretty
slow and I was sure that I was going to come off.....I basically dabbed my
foot about 6 times in a row and I had time to think about actually bailing
off and trying to land softly but somehow after about 5m or so of sliding I
managed to halt my slide without doing a wishbone impersonation......that
got the heart pumping!!! Rest of the ride was uneventful and I didn't see
another bike between there and home.

After dinner I had to go out to the shed to dry off the bike and re-lube the
chain so that it doesn't rust overnight.......get to do it all again
tomorrow - might ride the fixie though.

Yeah, fun evening. I rode from Noble Park to the city and then home to
Ashwood. Only some rain up until Springvale Road then a large puddle on the
other side of the intersection, so wet feet right off.
By the time I got to the Art Centre I was 5km behind my usual time. Argh!
It was like a 25km hill. At least the home run along the Yarra/Gardiner
Creek trails was a bit easier (though I am sure the wind swung around on
me - grrr).

Windy this morning, but I was on foot. Lucky for me, I missed the rain in the afternoon and rode home into a bit of a stiff breeze, but not the worst ever. I feel for those that left work around five - especially my colleague that left his wet weather gear at home ha ha ha!

Crosswind for me, gusty and quite a handful, but manageable. Helps to
be heavy, and used to a bike being pushed around a bit.

I didn't go in today as I was supposed to be working tonight, the weather put paid to that as the works we had scheduled were disruptive to calltaking and dispatch capabilities.

So I ended up with an unscheduled day off except I've gotta go in to work tomorrow and somehow get some sleep tonight after sleeping for most of the day.

I had the same problems a couple of years ago, with hippy volunteering to be draught boy out the front (!) Funny thing is I'm not as petit as previously, but still getting literally thrown around in the wind. In happier news, went down to Abbotsford Cycles last night & picked up integrated shifters, bar tape & various other goodies for the unfinished Steed project, so now there's a higher probabality of lard removal with some secret hill training over winter. Well thats the plan at the mo. (maybe subject to change) 😉

i had to head out to Moonee Ponds in the morning (Tuesday) and headed out thru docklands and then up Moonee Ponds Creek. When i got to Docklands the headwind was so fierce, at one stage i as in first gear, larfing at the insanity of it all when a guy walked up next to me from behind!
Big grins on the people going the other way tho 😄

6 days of enforced rest from a bit of sickness and this was my first morning out for the 6 days and it does not sound as bad as yesterday, but it was certainly blowy this morning, cold and WET...

I LOVE Melbourne.

I'm carrying my new track wheels[1] to DISC tonight strapped to my
back on the motorbike, and just taking them to the office half-way
this morning was .. entertaining. I hope the glue sticks, I've not
used tubs before, but the boss at the LBS glued them for me and he's
done it many times ... should be ok .. 🙂 They're in a wheelbag, so
won't get wet, but they're a big airfoil. Gusty == fun!

Bring on the cold and wet! We'll go snow-MTB'ing again.

[1] Bontrager Carbon Race-Lite Aeros. Snazzy ... won't make me any
faster, but -way- sexier. they're discontinued wheels so the local
Trek rep got 'em cheap for me. w00t. Graham Brown used the same wheels
at Launceston last summer, so I figure I won't be able to spin the
hubs out .. he's a -tiny- bit stronger than me 🙂
