Hydraulic Brake Brands Compatibility Question

Hi A quick question, Will a Lever work with different brand of Caliper? By pulling the Lever a fix distance, will they all move the same amount of fluid in the Hose? Basiclly, I have a XT M765 Lever and try to get a Caliper, but it's hard to find shimano caliper on ebay, so I'm trying to get another brand like hope, magura, hayes etc. Will they work? A quick question,
