Saturday started my first training and on the advice of my coach I
went to a 5k but ran the mile instead (5k got canceled). I started
running a sprint the first 800 and jogged it in for a 5th place (1st
in age group) 4:58 (very fast course.) I jogged a mile cool down,
went home and ran about 8 more miles easily at a 7:00 mile pace. Any
suggestions on preparing for this season?

You mean, what to do over the summer? If so, I have no new thoughts
since the last time you asked. But if any of that "Summer of Malmo"
appealed to you, there's a thread going here with some clarifications
of what to do and how to think about it: http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=1936989 -

is: summer is for base building. Do some mileage, do some long runs, and do
90 minute to 2hr runs on weekends. Once you've worked out what your training
regimen is, work your races around it. If you want to do races "for fun", that's
fine, but training should take precedence over these.Cheers,

I was on the JV CC team in 10th grade. I wanted to make varsity. During
the summer every morning I ran 7 miles and ran 8 in the evening. I didn't
do any speed work, just the distance. But I work to run it faster from
week to week.I was the #2 runner on the varsity team in 11th grade.
