Memory Map / Anquet to Mapping GPS Question

At least, that's true for my Garmin Vista C. I'm pretty sure it would
also be true for the 60Csx, unless anyone knows better?

[ I lost my Vista C last Friday. Foolishly left it on the roof of my
car at Seathwaite and drove off. Went back when I realised, but no sign
of it. :-( ]

It's true for the 60CSX, and indeed any GPS which isn't a PDA or laptop
in disguise. GPSs use vector (line) maps, Memory Map, Anquet, Tracklogs
etc. all use what is basically a .tif picture (a picture of a paper OS
map, as it happens). The picture looks nicer, until you need to zoom
in/out a long way, then it falls to bits. It also takes way, way
(10-100x) more space for storing the picture.

Yes, I'm trying to summon the will to find and read the policy
documents. There are two possible policies to choose from, the house
insurance and an annual travel policy.

I use the GPSMap 60CSx and Memory Map. What's been said is correct.
I have the Garmin Topo maps (plus the usual Euro City Navigator). The
Topo is nowhere near as detailed as an OS map - you'd want to take a
paper map to give added details. But it has a reasonable amount of
detail, contour lines and paths (but doesn't distinguish RoWs). I
think the Garmin website lets you view an image onscreen of anywhere
in the UK, so you can get an idea of what a place you know looks like
and whether it's what you need.

I use a cheap copy of metroguide on my 60C to give the road layout, not much
good in the hills but it does give some useful info over the base map. Check
ebay - an older version may do what you need.

UK Roads & Recs is (non routeable) useful too, and was not locked to any
particular GPS unit. You can add free contour mapping over it and then
it gets to be quite good. 8>.

I have Memory Map plus the Garmin 60csx, onto which I've loaded the SMC
contours for GB & Eire which are very useful, and a free download.
