I don't get it, why is it that virtually no one is talking up Evan's chances?
He barely gets a mention in this forum, hardly anything positive of him on most web sites (cyclingnews.com being perhaps an exception) and the team on Versus don't even seem to know that he is in the race.
Yet; he was second only to a storming Vino in today's TT, boding well for the final TT in a few days, and he has been matching the attacks in the mountains better and more consistently than anyone.
So what am I missing, why is he not being talked about as strong contender for the overall?

Pressently Evans has the best chance to win i Paris, assuming Astana doesn't put all their balls in the hands of Vinukorov or Rasmussen rides conservativly. However if the race explodes in the next 3 stages he is not my favorite. A chrage form Rasmussen and/or Vikukurov and i think Evans will have to fight for 2nd.

Rasmussen doesn't "charge". He can't attack and drop people - he doesn't have a big change of pace in him.
What he is good at is riding hard for a very long time. It serves him well in long range attacks in situations where he is unmarked but when he's in yellow he won't be going off the front. No change of pace.

Rasmussen doesn't "charge". He can't attack and drop people - he doesn't have a big change of pace in him.

I don't think they'll be able to do anything about him. He won't sprint away from anyone on the flat, but on a stage with two HC climbs, he doesn't need to.

I seem to recall a large Spaniard who adopted a similar approach - i.e. wheel suck the true climbers and limit his losses, confident that he could get minutes out of them in the flat TTs - to great success.
