Interesting but why would anyone want to know this? Perhaps,
some mention of the reason for keeping measuring spoons together
or otherwise would have made the survey more interesting. I seem
to remember in the dim past when they became detached, we
almost immediately lost one of the set and ended up buying new
ones.

There's a small bonus to keeping them together in that the bunch
is very easy to hang on the pegboard without finding a small
hole in an individual spoon. Have you seen those spoons with an
adjustable divider? They seem more trouble than they are worth
to me.

Maybe I needed a MCINL on that one. I have a good set of stainless
measuring spoons that are all still on the ring. I also have some old
measuring spoons that came as sets and got split up, which is probably why
I tend to reach for the good set on the ring. I also have some adjustable
spoons

The only reason mine are attached is because they're still new! Hubby found
a good set of stainless steel Oneida measuring spoons (UNUSED - tags
intact!) at a garage sale about a month ago. I love them. They're sturdy
and I love the heavy feel in my hand.

I took off the ring as soon as I bought mine. They are very narrow/elongated
so they can fit into small spice/herb jars.

The reason for taking them off the "key ring" is so I don't need to clean all
measuring spoons for just using one.

I bought some "new" ones on a ring, at thrift stores..before I left
for this assignment. I am wanting to take them off the ring as well,
as I too, find that if I use just one I still have to clean the whole
bunch.

Now, getting them off the ring is a becoming a real pain.. My hands
aren't as strong as they used to be..

Took me years to realize that having them on the ring was a pain in the ass.
Now they are off the ring. So much easier.

I use a regular knife-spoon-fork insert in a drawer to put my 1/4,
1/2, 1 teaspoon 1/2 T & 1T in -- all separate. If I'm doing mise en
place, it's easy to find them (or any other time).

There is nothing worse than looking for a certain measuring spoon; or
using one spoon out of a ring of them for oil, thus dirtying all of
them on the ring.

I have two sets, one anciet aluminum (my mother's), the other cheap
plastic came as a freebie with something, can't remember. I've never
used them to measure anything, not even once. The only practical use
for a set of measuring spoons is to entertain an infant. I never saw
my mother use her measuing spoons either, only as a baby toy.

Whenever I see someone using measuring spoons I know they haven't a
clue about cooking... just like a good bartender doesn't need
measuring devices either.

Do you feel the same way about kitchen scales? Now that it
is easy to find a scale that will measure down to grams, for
the home cook that is also something of use.

I can't find the original of Sheldon's comments but I disagree
totally. I imagine most people have a collection of ordinary
spoons but these have varying capacities. To bring some
consistency to my results I almost invariably use measuring
spoons. I'm no professional but many people agree that I'm not
bad at it! I also use a set of measuring cups: 1 cup and 1/2,
1/3 and 1/4 that I find much more convenient than a measuring
jug.

Hmmmmmm..... grab the set of spoons on a ring, locate the appropriate size,
use, wash out and rinse / wash linked spoons

OR

............ search through two or more drawers looking for the spoon you
need after easily located every measuring spoon but the one you need.

when you've only used one spoon, that's just silly!

I have multiple sets so when one is used and dirty, I can toss it into
the dishwasher and use another set if needed. So keeping them on the
ring is no problem for me.

I do not feel a need to wash them all if I only use one, but it's just as
easy to do them all. I only use them for measuring my vanilla when making
ice cream and for baking, and when I bake I usually use two or three of
them. I may as well wash the whole set. The extra second or two that it
takes doesn't usually throw my schedule off.
