  1. I just bought the TR2500BC, and made my third experiment. First was
pizza dough, the second a simple WW bread recipe from Bread Machine
Magic. This one today is an attempt to pretty much duplicate my favorite
bread recipe, one I've been making by hand regularly for a number of
years. This includes 1/3 cup pumpkin seeds, and I put them today in the
Extras dispenser, chose the Whole Wheat regular cycle, and pressed the
Extras button and had it say Yes and then pressed Start.

After pressing Start, nothing was on the LCD concerning Extras but I
assumed that they would be incorporated into the dough at some point,
presumably just before the 10 second Shape cycle, which occurs before
the final Rise cycle (Rise 3) in the 2 lb. Whole Wheat Bread cycle.
However, the seeds remained in the dispenser after Rise 3 began. Not
knowing why or what to do, I removed the pan, tipped the loaf into a
bowl and dumped the seeds in the bowl, incorporated them into the loaf
by hand (well, sort of), and returned the dough to the pan (after
heating the dough for 30 seconds in the microwave to compensate for heat
lost in handling the dough) for the rest of the cycle.

What did I do wrong? Why didn't the seeds get dumped into the dough? I
also wonder when Extras are dumped into the dough. I figure it must be
just before the 10 second shaping phase, but no mention is made in the
    manual. Thanks for any help.

    Hi Dan

I have the same machine and it works fine but if I want to add extras I do
it by hand and I put them in with the flour.

Why are you asking here? Your TR2500BC has a manufacturer and they most
likely have e-mail tech support. Perhaps you didn't push the right
buttons or perhaps it's broken...either way the manufacturer is the one
who can assist you. Yes you can purchase stuff that doesn't work when you
    get it home.

Yes, of course, it COULD be faulty, but I figured it highly likely that
I just didn't understand how it's supposed to work (i.e. user error).
THAT is why I'm asking here. Yes they have email support but I've read
literally triple figures of posts prior to buying this machine and am
aware that their email support can be woeful (i.e. 3 weeks comes to
mind). I knew I could get a quicker response posting here. I may email
or call them today, however, as a very careful reading of the manual and
no solution in this thread has me thinking that a malfunction could be
    happening.

Now, if I knew when that trap door is supposed to spring open I could
throw in the seeds (or whatever) at the appropriate moment in the cycle.
Does anyone know when that happens? I saw a post that suggested it was
at the beginning of the second knead cycle. Seemed unlikely, but I guess
    it might be possible.

I'm not certain that Salton will honor their warranty with me because I
bought the machine (new and in the unopened box) from an ebay seller,
not a retailer. Just don't know. I registered the machine at their
website, but it seems iffy. Anyway, Salton is notoriously undependable
for warranty service, so I hate to go that route if I can find a
    reasonable workaround.

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you. I was thinking of getting the
same machine, but I'm holding off now until I hear that this is
cleared up for you. Please post back here if you find the solution.

BTW, Salton does have an 800 number you can call for customer service.

It so happens I did call that 800 number yesterday, navigated the
automatic answering system (relatively quick - I guess I pressed the
right buttons) and had a live person pretty soon. She told me she has
the same machine and she has found the Extras function an iffy
proposition, so when she wants extras she just tosses them in with the
flour (i.e. the beginning). Otherwise, she's very high on the machine.
She affirmed that the Extras are supposed to dump at the beginning of
the 2nd knead cycle, so I could toss them in then if I continue to have
trouble with the function. It's no biggie and I'm not going to ask them
for a replacement machine just for that. I'd have to package the machine
(original packaging was a crumbly mess by the time the machine got to me
parcel post), pay for shipping, wait, and have crossed fingers that the
replacement would be OK. Not going to happen unless the machine is
    otherwise defective.

Other than the Extras problem, the machine seems fine and I'm truly
ecstatic that I've finally gotten this machine. I'd wondered if I
shouldn't have gotten the Zojirushi instead ($182 shipped from Abe's of
Maine, Abe!), but I've read a post or two that turned me off on the Zo.
I have a feeling I'm going to grow to love this machine very
    considerably.

    Thanks for the follow up.

    :Hi Dan

    :
I can hardly see the advantage of using the Extras feature over what you
are doing. The function is supposed to add at the beginning of knead
cycle 2, but that follows the initial mix cycle, which is very short and
the first knead cycle, likewise short. There's barely a difference, as
far as I can tell. My thinking is that for extras that are sensitive to
the action of the machine I could add them near the end of the 2nd knead
cycle and it would be the best option.

  10. Having lived with my Breadman for 2-3 months now, I want to report on
    the "problem".

I figure it for a software glitch (did from the beginning) and found a
workaround. After pressing "Start" to begin a cycle (not having chosen
Extras), I hit the Extras button, hear a little beep, see Extras Add on
the LCD briefly. They it works. Contrary to what I was told by a Salton
CSR, the Extras do not necessarily dump at the beginning of the 2nd
knead cycle. They dump somewhere "in the middle," has been my experience
(using the Whole Wheat cycle). So far that has worked.

Mostly my experiences have been quite positive. Have had a problem
getting the tub out (loosening it and removing), but persistence and
muscle power have over come that problem. Yesterday, made a loaf and the
pan came right out. Maybe I hadn't jammed it in as securely as normal is
all I can think. My loaf yesterday required adding more flour than I had
been adding for this recipe, and I have to conclude I made an error
    measuring (?).
