Not that he was going to win Hamburg anyway, but are
there any limits on the power of organizers to exclude
riders they don't like, even if they haven't been
sanctioned? Obviously the ASO has led the way here.
One can easily imagine this being abused.

Interestingly, Bruyneel's interview just published on his web site:
http://www.johanbruyneel.com/column.aspx?id=93 ,
which was reproduced on cyclingnews.com, fails to discuss the press conference. If this was a blockbuster admission of guilt, you'd suspect the Contador-won story would have been toned down.

P.S. And I just test rode one of the '08 Madones yesterday, from Mike Jacoubowsky's shop, which did a fantastic job taking time to fit me up, even if it was just a test ride. Even though I'm not a big Ultegra fan (chunk-chunk; even my old 9-speed Dura-Ace, certainly my newer SRAM Rival, has a better shifting feel, to me), the bike was certainly stable, and felt good during the ride, which included some steep climbs, a semi-rough descent, and some sprints (FWIW, as I don't have much of a sprint). But I'm afraid if the MJ is taken away from Disco, the bike will lose its luster 🙂.

I have a Madone from last year. It was a team bike and we all received
our bikes at same time. They're identical except for the "7 time Tour
de France winner" decal. Mine only goes to "6". I take this as a sign
that Lance is going to lose one of his. The only question is which
one?

Not a problem if he loses one, or even two. He can make them up with his two
"virtual" wins he has yet to claim. It's right there in the RBR rules. In
the post-LeMond era, you're allowed to make reasonable claims for up to
three.

You can probably solve the mystery. Did Trek change the "X time Tour
de France winner" decal with each model year, as soon as results were
posted (plus the 15 minute protest period), or somewhere in between?

I wish. Trek was *way* behind in getting new decals made, such that it
wasn't until halfway through the new model year that we saw bikes with "7"
instead of "6"- over half a year after Lance had won his last TdF.

Thanks. It's nice to know it might actually be an '06. No matter, I
like it either way.
