  1. I just caught the current Runner World's interview, though it was in
    newpaper articles last summer:

    http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-243-297--12095-0,00.html

He was one of the best runners in the world a couple decades ago
and still in good shape today.
And sounds like he was following all the "rules" for good health
yet had a heart attack at a relatiively young age.
The "rule" he didnt follow was about having ancestors without heart
    trouble,
    like Jim Fixx.
I suspect his good ahpe helped him live past the attack.

Thanks Rick, that was a decent read.
But I must ask: what kind of a [censored] has a heart attack? I mean WTF is
wrong with this guy? All that running, and he does a Fred Sanford?
    What a wimp.

What a stupid comment. According to your premise, exercise would
    deliver eternal life.

"Stupid" because I don't understand it. Bill is much smarter than I,
    and I accept that.

Actually I do question Albertos fitness. The guy only runs 20 minutes
or so per day, x5 days, so technically he isn't a LD runner. The LD
running he did years ago doesn't count. He runs like that punkass
[censored] Knebel, a dainty 3 miler. That ain't real running.

But I have a REAL job. LOL!

I know the data, when you factor in the numbers, shows that those who
exercise live longer. Just like all tables, they are based on averages
and frankly not very meaningful for each individual. For me I don't find
the longevity metric anywhere as meaningful as the quality of life
before our plug gets pulled. Maybe others run so they can live longer
but I wonder if that isn't a fools goal, so to say. Each to there own.

Yeah, those who exercise longer than Alberto does. His wussie little
25 minute runs do not qualify as real long distance running, and
therefore offer little, if any, cardiac benefit. This would be as
great an injustice as calling a prancer like Knebel a runner. Prancing
around for 30 minutes is nothing, it takes 90 minutes of running to
    produce true cardiac benefits.

Well finally after all these years, Douglass is right. Run for the way
    it makes you feel today.

As I read that article, I remembered reading one a few years back
about the time at Boston where they ran neck and neck (was it '82?).
He finished the last several miles without water, and though he won,
there are people who claim he has never been the same physically
because of the damage he did that day.

What stupidity. Dehydration doesn't cause permanent damage that
suddenly creeps up years later and gives you a coronary.
Are you related to Rick++? Brothers? Classmates at "That special
school"? Bus mates on the short bus?

Jeez, I'm gald I didn't write the article I was talking about (maybe
you didn't catch that fine distinction), otherwise I would take your
criticism really seriously and it would probably keep me awake at
    ni . . . zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
