More pre-formed frozen burger by-products. AFAIC anyone consuming those
things (can't even be called eating) deserves whatever ills may befall
    them.

So, you think that if you're poor (and thus forced to shop at Sam's), or
perhaps you just have bad taste, or you're trying a new product just to
see how it is, then it's OK if you get potentially fatal food poisoning?
    Please explain your logic.

Poor people shop at Sam's? Yeah right! I don't live close to a Costco so I
    buy these items at Sam's...

    Parmigiano Reggiano
    Discounted Waterford Crystal for gifts
    Rack of lamb
    Fontina cheese
    etc., etc.

LOL I have to agree. Sheldon [censored] about people not people grinding their
own beef and sausage. But if you buy frozen ground beef patties you really
have no clue what you're getting.

One thing you know you'll be getting is WATER, sometimes salted, and
plenty of it, at whatever "meat" price they charged for those frozen
    disks.

    Mmmmm... "Bubba Burgers", indeed.

The recall notice said the products involved were 100% beef,
Which would mean no water or other additives (like TVP).

It's pretty rare to find adulterated hamburger patties. At least
at the stores where I shop.

Apparently you are illiterate. The topic has nothing to do with being
obese, it has to do with getting an e coli infection from the meat - and
the person I was responding to said the people who buy that meat

I briefly heard on the news (radio) this morning something about Sams'
hamburger. For those who shop at Sams, give it a listen.

Anything worse than the normal "suppliers cut corners because of the low
prices demanded by Walmart and produced contaminated meat"?

You comatose imbecile, has not a whit to do with Walmart, or any other
    food store.

Actually ALL preground meat is contaminated by default... it's an
utter impossibility to mass produce clean ground meat... that's why
for many years now the warning to cook preground meat well done. The
only way to produce clean ground meat is to grind it yourself, then
you can eat it rare, even raw if you like. Preground meat is a
relatively new concept, didn't exist fifty years ago. Fifty years ago
there were an awful lot of very poor folks stretching their food
budget by feeding their family ground meat dishes, but they all ground
their own or occasionally would have the corner butcher shop do the
grinding (but then meat arrived at the butcher as full sides and
butchered on premises, the meat was clean and dry). Back then there
were an awful lot of corner butcher shops and practically no grocery
stores sold meat, and there existed very, very few stupidmarkets, none
of which sold meat. There were so many independant butchers in town
that they couldn't afford to cheat their customers or they'd be out of
business, immediately if not sooner. But then as now there is only
one way and one way only to have clean ground meat, grind your own...
and still you need to know how to grind meat correctly, but even
pointy headed imbeciles like yoose can learn... the much more
difficult part is how to overcome your gross LAZINESS!

Preground mystery meat is a very bad concept... everyone has been
warned, and warned on a daily basis... anyone who eats preground
mystery meat does indeed deserve whatever ailment befalls them.
Tobacco kills yet people still partake... I see no difference
whatsoever between consuming tobacco and consuming preground mystery
meat... in fact the preground mystery meat consumers are far dumber,
because inexpensive home meat grinders are readily available.

course the obese are too fat to walk through the front door... who do
your think they invented drive thrus for, and for all businesses....
just watch who goes to the bank drive thru, the pharmacy drive thru,
all of them... the obese in their PJs. If the fast food joints closed
their drive thrus they'd go out of business, because the obese spend
far more than normal sized patrons. The real business acumen is not
fast food based, it's absolutely drive thru based.

The patties can be labelled as 100% beef and still contain more water
than you'd find, for example, in beef chuck that you've fresh-ground
then formed into patties for burgers. The steam that emanates from one
of the frozen burger disks as it grills/fries/broils with high heat is
    one quick giveaway.

As an experiment, you could take a "100% USDA choice chuck" Original
Bubba Burger, place it in a skillet along with patty of chuck that
you've ground and formed into a patty of similar size and weight. Put
the skillet on a burner, turn on the heat and watch what happens.
You'll likely see a pool of water forming around the frozen patty, well
before any fat or significant moisture starts rendering from your
    homemade patty.

Try the nominally better frozen burgers, from Costco and other suppliers
(including the Costco ground sirloin), and you'll probably see the same
effect of water pooling before anything else.

The only frozen patties I've found that don't have appreciable amounts
of water in them have been from Coleman and a couple of local markets
that use local meat processors, and they're certainly more expensive
than the "Bubba Burger" patties and their ilk.

I suspect that the purveyors of frozen beef patties add water not just
to pad their weight, but possibly also to help cook the patties by
steaming. This would be an easy way to decrease the possibility that
the meat would be dangerously undercooked, lessening the manufacturers'
exposure to food poisoning lawsuits and the like.

None of the recalled products may contain water, binders,
fillers, extenders, edible organ meats, added fat, or partially
defatted beef fatty tissue. About 15% of the products recalled,
as labeled (For example Mikes), are allowed that last bit (PDBT
for short) plus whatever else is on the ingredient list. These
    are labeled "patties".

The only difference between these burgers and 100% ground sirloin
is that these burgers may contain head meat trimmings (mostly
cheek meat). The ones labeled "patties" may contain added
ingredients, but they are in the minority.

It's that simple. They are not adding water or salt water. Head
meat doesn't contain any more water then the primal sections of
the cow. Most of the pre-formed hamburgers are exactly what they
say they are, 100% beef with no gimmicks.

The human body consists of 65% to 90% water, depending on which part of the
body. Lean muscle tissue is about 75% water. I wonder if cows are much
different, and if the steam could have something to do with all the water
    that's naturally present.
