Cracked frame on 2yr old Marin

I'd be *very* surprised if it isn't covered by warranty directly, or=20 even if it isn't that Marin
and/or their dealer wouldn't do anything to=20 help. Can't guarantee that, but I would be surprised.

If you're willing to pay that much cash for a generally useful utility=20 bike, how about something
slightly different in the shape of a Birdy=20 Red? It performs very nicely and is quite light, has
the comfort and=20 efficiency of full suspension designed for the road and folds into a=20 neat
small package that makes the bike more flexible in use, easier to=20 store and gives you better
security options when you park it. Another=20 possibility might be a Brompton T6, not as fast or
light as the Birdy=20 but it folds more neatly and easily.

You should just take it back to the shop you got it from. Marin will almost certainly just give you
a new frame.

Shouldn't be no problem, I had a 5mm hairline crack on my 2000 Rift Zone, Marin provided a new 2002
MV Pro frame as a replacement and paid the shop for the rebuild.

My suggestion is to go to Condor Cycles on Grays Inn Road. I too bought a Marin from Bike Park just
over a year ago - I had a problem where the gear hanger sheared and pulled the rear mech through the
seat stays - I called Bike Park and got the response of "sorry mate, not our problem talk to someone
else." So I did - I went to Condor and they were very helpful and sorted me out with the spares I
needed and also got to sell me that road bike I had been looking for. Condor are a Marin dealer so
should be able to help out with the warranty as well as doing their own hybrid - should you feel the
need to change.

Well, after 6 days of phone calls to the bike shop (who no longer sell Marin bikes) and ATB who
import Marin into the UK, I've been promised a new frame. I rode the bike the two miles from the
office to the shop on Monday evening. I could feel the whole bike flexing underneath me, and when I
got there, the crack went about 300 deg around the bottom bracket, through the weld and along part
of the tubing. Hope to get it back in a week, I may have to pay for any assembly/packing costs
incurred by the shop, but I can live with that. They warned me that the 2003 Marin came in red, as
opposed to the silver 2001 model, so I'll be interested to see what the new girl looks like!

I want to post a follow-up to this as, in the light of recent developments, I was probably unfair to
Bike Park.

About a week after my original post my frame developed a crack that went around the base of the seat
tube throught the BB and into the down tube. I called Bike Park they said bring it in, I did and
within a week I had the bike back with a new frame. The service I got was exemplary.

Yep, after initial reluctance, CycleFit organised my bike to be collected by ATB (who import Marin).
I got the bike back within a week, with a brand new frame (same model year and colour), fully
reassembled with all my extras such as mudguards, light brackets, etc fitted as well. They charged
20 quid which I was very happy to pay. I wasn't required to show any documentation, such as receipts
etc (lucky coz they have disappeared long ago!). The bike rides beautifully now.
