1 - You probably already know this: If you are a beginner, or training
a beginner, wrap a towel around the seat.
2. Keep the pedals screwed in tight. If they become loose, they may
strip the crank threads, which is not only an expensive problem, but
you may discover that a replacement crank hard to find. But, if the
pedals are kept tight, the problem will never happen. Oddly, unicycle
pedals do seem to loosen all by themselves, and so should be checked
every couple of days.
3. Bonus: Take care of yourself. If you are new to unicycling, or are
working with a new unicycle: wear two pairs of socks, or otherwise
protect the side of your ankle. You'll never know how glad you were
you took this suggestion!
Have fun!

1. If you are a beginner buy the most comfortable saddle you can afford,
cheap saddles are often uncomfortable, wrapping a towel round them
won't make it much better, cycle shorts will help more than a towel.2. make sure the right hand pedal is on the righthand side and the left
hand pedal is on the lefthand side. Otherwise they will unscrew as you
ride and riding with loose pedals will destroy the threads in the
cranks. If the pedals are on the correct side they will tighten as you
ride forward.3. Take care of yourself and wear appropriate protection, whether it be
knee-pads, wrist-guards or helmet.jim

I'm wondering if they mean to use the towel to protect the seat (from
biginner rider drops etc)--

My big ones:
1 Make sure the seat is on forwards. The narrower part is the front.
Also make sure the right pedal & crank are on the right side2 Make sure the right pedal is screwed into the right crank (and the
left pedal into the left crank). If you idle or ride backwards a lot
check tightness before/after every ride.3 Check the tightness of the bottom bracket or lollydrop holders at
least once a week.4 Check the tightness of the seat, bumper and handle bolts at least
once a week.5 Make sure the spokes are tight and evenly tensioned every few weeks,
more often if it's new or you ride hard.6 Make sure the cranks are on tight (most can take up to 65
foot-pounds).Daytripper63 said:

skilewis74Ride everywhere and never just ride anywhere. If you can ride where you
are going within a hour, do it, and if you can do a trick 50-75% of the
time do it along the way.
Parafrasing a pro skater when asked for advise to kids who wanted to
get much better and maybee turn pro one day.
