Actually, that looks very useful, especially for people who use a lot of
avocado. You would get that messy business of getting the meat out of the
shell and then trying to slice it neatly; it would come out in nice neat
slices.
I'll keep an eye out for that!

I'm so with you on this item Phred. What is so hard about slicing an
avocado? That gadget looks like an impulse item to me. I'd see it in a bin
at a dollar store and buy it. It'd sit in gadget area with all the other
unused stuff.

Apart from the fact that I think it's overkill for the job, there's
the fact that avocados quite often have a few "nasty bits" on the
skin side of the flesh which you don't see until you've got the
flesh out. I would prefer to see the defects *before* I slice the
thing up, so just scooping out each half with a spoon seems a better
way to go anyway.

lectured about all the Good Things the Scandinavians allegedly are
doing that Australia is not doing. Though I'm not surprised there are

I've not heard any lecturing about Scandinavian Good Things.

IKEA (the store) is kind of fun, but it is full of other things (I think)
besides Scandanavian items.

I have to admit I have always thought highly of ScanPans (though I've never
bought any, I've been tempted).
I like Dansk and admit that I own a beautiful (to me) Scandanavian made
(probably in the last 3-4 decades) teapot.

Most of the stuff I buy is from China -- not much choice. I'm sold on
'stuff' made in Italy. I wonder if I've been sold a bill-of-goods.

Perhaps in Australia they are importing more Scandinavian products? Is that
so?

I'd like to see one that has the slicer on one end, then the same thing
on the other end only with no slicing parts so the entire avocado half
can be removed whole. Haven't found one online yet. I probably
wouldn't buy one however.

LOL! I Have seen this device in a catalog and wondered the same thing.
Another super-specialized tool for those with more money than brains,
and without the intelligence or ability to use a paring knife to do the
same thing. Not to mention, the idea that all avocados are the same size
or do not have over-ripe sections that need to be cut out - duh!

Once in a while, I come across things that make me say "That's a
good idea!" but they don't always work that well, witness Oxo's
mango slicer! I'm back to a *blunt* knife again.

You're the one who's on dope... if you slice avocado flesh while still
in its skin you had best plan on guacomole... that gadget slices and
pares the avocado simultaneously. You're confusing avocado with
mango.

There's a similar gadget that cuts the mango halves away from its
seed... I think that might be more useful than an avocado slicer.
With mango once the pit is removed then the flesh in each halve is cut
in a checkerboard pattern while still in its skin, then the skin is
flipped outside in so it looks like a hedgehog, then the resultant
cubes of mango can be easily sliced off or bitten off.

Nope, apparently I'm better at slicing avocados than you are. I can
