  1. I just finished the Thanksgiving day Race here in Cincinnati. The weather conditions sucked but I
was surprised at how well I ran. It was about 40 degrees and pouring down rain the whole morning.
Initially, my goal had just been to finish around 47- 48 minutes, based on my training runs.
However, I really surprised myself. Despite starting out a bit too fast (Ran my first mile at 7:05,
2nd mile around 7:15), I was able to maintain around 7:30 for the next 3 miles and ran about 7:12
the last 1.2 miles. In the end I finished in 45:39, not too bad for me. My initial plan was to start
out around 7:40-7:45 for the first half of the race, then pick it up to about 7:25-7:30 the last
half. I really surprised myself though, despite even starting out a bit fast. All in all, it was a
    fun experience.

  2. Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving all.

  3. Joe,

Nice job on your race this morning! I volunteered and helped set up the race in Cincy on Wednesday
night but ran the 5 miler up in Dayton with a friend of mine. We chose to run up there because of
the 25th anniversary fleece vest that came with registration. It was pretty cool to because my buddy
and I ended up being interviewed live by channel 2 news. I agree that the rain sucked but at least
it was fairly warm. My time wasn't as good as yours I averaged 8:39 a mile for a time of 43:14. I
don't train much though. I ran a few marathons this fall and just run a race here and there thru the
winter so that I can maintain my weight. How much do you run? What part of Cincinnati are you from?

  4. Hey Dave, good job on the Dayton run. I currently run around 35-40 mpw, since running Chicago where
I peaked around 45-50mpw. I just started running a little over 1 year ago, b/c i wanted to get into
shape and lose some flab. I'm from the east side of Cincinnati. What about you?

  5. Joe,

I here ya there! I run for weight management but I really like it too. I'm pretty dedicated in the
spring and summer but I really fall off track in the fall and winter. I ran my first two marathons
this fall. I ran the Air Force Marathon up at Wright Patt in Dayton on Sept 20th and then ran
Columbus on Oct 19th. My training is horrible though. I only ran 7 days in two months leading up to
my first marathon. I was really lacking the motivation to get out the door and never ran a run over
15 miles up til Wright Patt. I'm thinking of joining a running club but I'm from the west side
(Colerain/Fairfield) area and seems like everyone that runs is from the east side of town. It just
really helps to know that others are counting on you to be out there. Do you belong to one?

  6. No, I'm not a part of any club. I think registering for a marathon has been enough motivation to get
myself out the door. Though, I'm at a point now, where I really enjoy running and look forward to
it, so often it's not a problem of not wanting to get out the door. Though sometimes it is tough,
getting up in the morning before work to get myself out there.
