It was taken from the road.
initially I thought it was from the Whinlatter Pass road.
But now I reckon it was from the minor road that runs between Buttermere and
Swinside.
I think it is the Eastern End of Grasmoor.

Newlands Pass is definitely possible, and very much looks the part. I
can't remember exactly what Eel Crag* looks like from that angle, but
if it's from the Buttermere side of Newlands Hause then it'll be Eel
Crag, reinforced by the rounded bit on its right looking very much
like Sail.

* Everyone seems to call it Crag Hill these days, but I don't like
that name, and when it comes to the fells I say whatever Wainwright
did (except for mining-related bits he got wrong).

The fell in the centre looks like Sail to me, with Eel Crag (a.k.a.
Crag Hill) to its left. Than would mean the fellside on the left is
Wandope. The one on the right must be Knott Rigg perhaps from the road
just approaching Newlands Hause from Buttermere.
