I missed the ones on basting and stollen. It makes me want to keep basting turkeys the way I've always done and to try making stollen for the first time.
I bake my turkeys stuffed and overstuffed. I know that the most recent health opinion is that baking a stuffed turkey is asking for trouble. I have never found it to be so.
Nah, it's leaving the stuffing in the bird as it cools that's dangerous, according to all I've read.

I do that every time I roast a stuffed chicken. Eat the legs, wings, and half the dressing the first day, put chicken containing remaining dressing in the refrigerator, then thighs, back, and finish the dressing the second. Then freeze the breast for later pot pie. Never made me sick.
Tomorrow I'm heating a smoked turkey half breast from the freezer. Can't decide wether to try dressing in a casserole which has never worked for me or have something else with it besides cranberry sauce.

Almond paste. I *detest* almond paste. Love almonds. Can't stand almond extract, either.
I'm with you. And marzipan is the worst food on the planet, as far as I'm concerned. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating, but YUCK.

My aunt, when she lived in Germany, used to send us marzipan every Christmas and I was the only person in the family who liked it. I'm not sure I would today, though. Palates change.
Our Christmas cakes are made with a rich fruit cake, marzipan on top and then thick sugar icing on top!
I take off the icing and throw it away, eat the marzipan and then eat the cake with cheese🙂)

Besides many varieties of stollen don't even contain any nuts at all.
I want a recount on my incorrect answer then! LOL.

Hmm if it were up to me you'd be awarded the answer. However, since some varieties of stollen *do* contain nuts, need to pitch that one to the referees.

One kind host of mine in Somerset made a Christmas cake and forgot to add the glycerin to the icing. We almost needed a hammer and chisel to crack the stuff. Fortunately I hate Christmas cake anyway so only had to eat a small piece to satisfy hospitality! But good quality marzipan is fantastic. We used to make marzipan 'fruit' and other figures when I was a kid. Thinking my mother used to make her own marzipan...

My DH will use any kind of canned fish for his lunch, and yes, we've had jack salmon here. Tastes like cat food. Don't know as I'd cover it in powdered sugar, and it would overpower the almonds.

Sephardic rather than Ashkenazi cuisine.
Arri must have the same book I do ;-)
LOL In fact I do have the same book, as well as the 'Companion to American Food and Drink' (that one is cos I'm in it LOL).However I looked it up on the Net. Handy, that is!

You mean mackerel?
I like it. It's cheaper than buying those small cans of sardines and tastes just the same (subjective).
