Through a combination of being really busy and really slack of late I have not been out on a decent road ride for months. I intend to address this tomorrow morning and have decided to head out on the BR ride to see if anyone still actually rocks up for these??
If anyone is interested in coming along I am planning on being in the usual spot near the traffic lights at the Doncaster Westfield at approx 0720h. I plan to depart there at 0730h and will be doing Clinton's Rd before stopping at Smith's Gully for coffee and a muffin.
I am not planning on breaking any records so if anyone is keen to catch up for an easy ride with a couple of hills thrown in then hopefully I will see you in the morning.

Should give the bloke a prod, ie: he should be doing training for the Alpine Classic.
BTW - if you're in the CBD tomorrow there's this bicycle-themed event as a wind down/ gratuitous excuse to socialise & imbibe (responsibly):
Sunday is going to be a beautiful day for a street party! Come down and share the positive bike love with us at Section 8. (Container Bar, Tattersalls Lane, CBD)
Dress up yourself and your bike, bring your friends and share in the bicycle mayhem of the very first B.est F.riends F.orever Laneway Block Party!

Sorry mate was up the country doing a tri, otherwise would have definitely been up for it. Was thinking of putting up a suggested date and see if we get a few old faces along. next Sunday??

DaveB[/QUOTE]Yep I was going to suggest next Sun, provided there's no rain. Rain and myself don't get along.

I'd be keen for an "easy-ish" BR next week. I'm a bit rusty on the longer rides, but need to get some longer rides in before the Amy Gillett ride.
Would also be nice to catchup with some old faces.
Well, it was just me on Sunday and so I had a leisurely ride all on my lonesome. There were plenty of bikes out and about and all in all it was a great morning for riding. I extended my stop at Smiths Gully to two coffees and ended up running into a guy who rides with some other guys that I have ridden with before (mtb ride starting from Smiths Gully). Chatted to him for a while and then we rode back through to Eltham together before he turned off to go home.
After going around the big roundabout on Main Rd, I took the first left at the lights and discovered a short, steep hill that was a bit of a grind to get up. From the top of the hill I followed the road around and ended up going via Bonds Rd and past the Antenna farm before heading home. It was the first time I have been riding without a backpack on for many months and it was a pleasant change from my usual commuting rides.
I am keen for next weekend - I will see if I can get a leave pass.
Hey Gags - I passed you tonight.. you heading outbound, me inbound... just east of the guide dogs home where the path becomes parallel with the river. I'd have turned around and given you a tow, but was on my way to watch the Kew crits 🙂

Can't say I even recognised you although I do seem to recall passing two roadies riding together and then another guy by himself a couple of hundred metres later??
I actually remembered that the crits were on as I was riding past Dights Falls at about 6:01pm and I saw the pack going around the top end of the loop (must have been the first lap in D grade assuming that they still start at 6pm??). I was actually planning on getting out for my first crit in a couple of years but obviously forgot about it and road the mtb to work......will have to try to remember to ride the roadie next Wednesday.

BR this Sunday? I'll have a word.

At this stage I have warned out the missus that I will be going for another ride on Sunday - it would be good to see Bikesoiler there along with a few of the other guys who used to make up the BR ride on a regular basis - so how about it DaveB, Dutch, Ess, Llama, Jazmo, Brett, etc????

I'll be there. Currently the lightest I've been for 15 years so will be interested to see how I go on the hills (probably still [censored]).
On 2007-12-14, gplama (aka Bruce) was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea:

Becoming Fine and 23.....I'm in 🙂
Was that the weather, or a status report on the person who serves us at Smiths Gully?
23 you reckon? Only now becoming fine?
