A cycling charity has been accused of manipulating The People's £50 Million Lottery Giveaway by encouraging its supporters to vote several times each for its entry.
The Big Lottery Fund announced on Wednesday that Sustrans had won the money with 42 per cent of the 286,000 votes cast.
The Times has learnt that a manager for Sustrans circulated an e-mail that encouraged people to vote as many times as possible.
Well it was pretty obvious in URC that this was being encouraged ... and in every other cycling forum I lurk/post in.

Which didn't seem fair to me at all ... though to my shame I said nothing at the time.

I guess it's a vote based on public sentiment, so the same loophole was available to all, including Bellamy, judging from his remark.

Yeah, 'cause I'm /sure/ the supporters of the other causes didn't encourage their supporters to do the same thing. The very idea!

Fact is the system for voting was borken, so given everyone will be playing the same game it'd be silly /not/ to.
However, having a non-borken system would be preferable.

The other schemes were local too, Sustrans plan was for a nationwide network.

It strikes me that they found the best way to limit people's votes. Most people will have access to a limited number of IP addresses and a limited number of phone lines.
I think I have access to 2 IP addresses, one of which is shared by the whole of my school so I would be lucky to manage much with that. I have access to 3 phone lines, similarly sharing one with the whole of my school.
