I bought a polished aluminum Gary Fisher Mt. Tam with Deore XT components, Deore LX crank, and Manitou (X-vert E) front shock at a Yard Sale. The Mt. Tam has purple decals. Does anyone know how I can determine the age of the bike? Is the Mt. Tam considered a step up or a step down when compared with the Gary Fisher Big Sur. Thanks for any help you can give.

The Mt.Tam is no longer a model made by Fisher. In 2002 and 2003 it used a 29" wheel so it is older than that if its a 26" wheel. When it was in production it was the second highest of the Fisher hardtails, just below the Supercaliber. Fisher's site only has archives back to 2002, good if it ends up being a 29". Might want to take a look over there. Hope that helps a little.
Brandon.
