Carbon Fiber Base Thread...

I'm getting my Cf base next week and I've got a question.

Do you but a little rubber piece or something soft on the bolts so the
metal doesn't touch directly the CF?

It helps stop the base snapping from what i've seen.

You put the rubber between the seatpost and the base so the edges don't
dig in. I used three layers of tube on mine though you can probably get
away with two.

base but did anybody ever put rubber between the scew and the base and
the nuts and the base?

You probably could, I'm using the metal stiffener plate from a plastic
saddle on my UDC CF base.

I don't think that would work out very well. Because the square holes
for the carriage bolts are usually tight and just big enough to fit the
bolt in, putting rubber in the hole would probably make it too loose.

And I don't believe you'd need to put rubber between the nuts and the
base because the seat post plate is already between that.

I used some plastic form a old notebook to put under my seat...
and they are soo much better than plastic. Much stiffer and better
feel.

Thats one point that most people aren't aware of before they get one.
Its not just that the base is stronger or lighter - it just feels so
much better and is more responsive.

It really is. You told me before i got it that it would be, but i just

Since nobody has said it, the Scott Wallis base set up is amazing. A
work of art! Light, strong, responsive. I just got my second one
today that I am putting on my Coker. Photos of the seat build to come.

buying a new one because now it won't crack in the back and my new one
is the correct hole pattern. My paypal account is now empty though:o

i love my cf base from Scott. the only downside to it is it made my seat
a lot wider, making it harder to do unispins.

Oh yeah, I don't like how wide it gets when you put KH foam on so I
just use the top of the foam without the sides and I put vinyl tubing
and duct tape around the lip. It makes it really comfortable for
anything sif.

I have two questions about CF bases.

1. What kind of weight savings can you expect going from plastic/metal
stiffener to CF?

2. Is there some way to attach the saddle cover without having to do
the whole "fusion cover-shoe-string" thing? I don't like the feel of a
fusion cover because the cover is slipping around on the saddle and
that doesn't feel very good when doing SIF trials.
