When I was thirteen I ran (cycled) away from school to home (180 miles
in two days). I had money in the form of a Post Office Savings book,
but forgot that Post Offices aren't open on Sunday, with the result that
I had only a couple of packs of energy tablets to sustain me for the
first day. By the end of that day I was eating a raw turnip that had
fallen off a farmer's wagon. Mind you, the massive breakfast I consumed
the following morning was one of the most enjoyable meals I'm ever
likely to have. :-)
