Flowmax and Proscar

Thank you. Last night about 11pm my BP readings were 180/87 and a pulse of
60. I woke at 5am and my heart was really pounding, my BP was 214/85 and my pulse 112. My wife
phoned the out of hours medical service and a doctor came down about 50 minutes later. He said
that my heart sounded all right and my readings by then were 198/75 with my pulse down to 80. He
could see no reason for the episode but suggested that I stop taking the Proscar and Flowmax and
see what happens over the next few days as it gets out of my system. He also suggested that I
take a half Securon tablet at night as my BP is always high in the morning. A recent 24 hour
monitor gave an average of 139/71, the highs were 161/? at the time the statuesque blonde nurse
fitted and removed the halter. Blondes always have that effect on me. Derek.

I did a Google search on Flomax and this cropped up-: "A few days ago, I read an article in "Worst
Pills, Best Pills" newsletter warning of the dangers of alpha-blocker drugs. The article, by
Sidney Wolfe,
M.D., cautioned that these drugs can significantly increase the chance of heart attack or stroke.
The article specifically named Cardura, Hytrin and Flomax, all of which belong to the alpha-
blocker family. Although, I had been taking Flomax for the last two years and Proscar for more
than five years, I reluctantly decided to discontinue the Flomax out of concern that I might
increase my risk of stroke"

very little exertion, my pulse rate would go sky high. I normally have low blood pressure and that
might have been some of the problem. The fact that there are increased cases of congestive heart
failure and stroke are enough to make you think twice or more about taking it".

If this alpha-blocker is the same as beta blocker, I would have shared the same experience. I
suffered from bp spike=ups for 6 months until I took Dr. Chung's advice to take the short-lived beta
blockers away from my regime.
