I am trying to fit my 16 year old son with a pair of road shoes. He's got a wide foot and most vendors don't produce a wide model. I know the SIDI brand has Mega widths. Do any other companies offer a wide shoe (US 4E?) at a resonable cost? In the $80-100USD price range?
I have size 14 2E feet. I have been wearing the Sidi Genius shoes in the mega size and they seem to be plenty big for me. I even have a custom insole in them. Though they are on the expensive side.
I'd second that for the Specialized shoes. They're quite a bit wider than all the 'popular' shoes out there. Very comfy too. Damn things are more comfortable than any regular shoes or trainers! Specialized should make shoes you can chill out in after the ride.
I looked at Specialized shoes this week and was very impressed. The insole has a well developed metatarsal arch that should go a long way toward preventing foot soreness and possible nerve inflammation. They also market insoles for use in all cycling shoes.
Sidis. That is all you need to consider. Get to a bike shop and try on a pair in a mega size that is in your price range. You simply cannot go wrong with them.
You can take a look on CARNAC models as well (in case You dont want to go for SIDI). They tend to be wider than usual SIDI (not sure about wide model of SIDI).
