  1. if this occupancy inspection doesn't take place tomorrow, i'll be at it again so let's pray it doesn't because i am still grinning about it all, like a kid in a candy store but more along the lines of a bull in a china shop.. 😄

  2. Day off from work, so I did a little work on the bike.

About 3 hrs (15.7 mph, I think that's not bad riding solo), bit of a headwind on the way back.

  3. i got a tc jester run of 5 miles in today. i'm pretty sore. :o

tc jester is a park with paved and gravel trail. boring and barely any shade, but with mile markers.

  4. this time with three bottles and my old 70 oz camelback about three quarters of the way full, which i drank completely somewhere in the 14 mile mark, with a spare tube, tools, flat repair kit, etc..

saums to katy hockley to morton to neumans to depot to 359 to instant split to 362 to morton to neuman to morton to katy hockley to saums to home.

there's a strip on morton, a neighborhood that has a strip of water on it with a water ski/board jump for the folks with money. it's not very big at all but this ride is the first time i can say i raced a boat, and won. it was cool, he was making his u-turn at the end as i was just coming up on the little lake and he took off and i did as well. i was only in the vicinity of 23-24 mph for maybe a mile tops, but it was still a race 🙂 and the two of us new it as we glanced at each other as we came into side by side eye contact in the beginning. btw, the lake is only about thirty to forty feet away from the road and runs along side it. we had fun or i did with it anyways.
and he had some bad ass woman in a bikini on that boat. i definatley saw that, all googled eyed!!😄

anywho, just after that i decided to put my money where my mouth is and rode no hands, relaxed but in a fixed style so to speak for one more mile exactly and stayed at 19 mph for that one mile with body straight, held held back as in a running sprint. it worked and i felt as if i had control the entire time so no worries of a crash as the bike was running solid this time, no jerking and ackward movements which i'll take is a good sign anyday.

headwind the entire time. worse heading out west than coming back in but one of those tricky storm winds that are always in your face no matter which direction you are riding.

dis 30.28, time 1:43:06, av 17.6. good ride indeed and on another side note, it took 12.48 miles for me to feel warmed up, i checked as soon as it happened and i was averaging 17.5 at that time.

39 x 13 majority of the time but 53 x 12 for four miles, from the 8 to the 12 mile marker and out of the seat for the first one mile, just going through the motion at around 20-21 mph while standing up if you will and all the while in my orange colonel's jersey. it's world ranked blessed. 🙂

    go figure.

  5. My birthday ride today

Ran into my racing neighbor twice - passed him in the opposite direction, then he passed me going home whilst I was finishing up a rest stop.

  6. glad you had a good b-day, cyber.

i didn't make it to a group ride this weekend but i did just get back from the same route which is west on saums to north on katy hockley to west on morton to south on neumans to west on depot to north on 359 to north by northeast on 362 to east on morton which doglegs back into neumans to at which point i make a right and travel south on neumans to east on morton to south on katy hockley to back east on saums to home. that'll be the last time i actually talk directions on here for this route as it's only so as to get it out, not guessing any of you non houstonians would know what i'm talking about.

i never felt at one with the bike this time, not once. bike was solid but it was taking too much effort to stay in 39 x 13 and maintain a 17.9 average. i didn't

    av 17.7, dis 30.27, tm 1:42:17.

wind the entire time and this time it was worse coming back, seriously. no relief whatsoever.

three full bottles, drank one and a half along the ride.

i did swim 4 laps in a league pool before the ride though and that really made me feel like a chump.

Yes - it's a Garmin Nuvi 1250 GPS, got it on clearance from Best Buy. It has three usage modes - Auto, Pedestrian, and Bicycle. Sorry the photo came out blurry, I tried to sharpen it but to no avail.

  11. that's a pretty cool gadget, never lost.

on a different note, i'm trying to use mapmyride without logging in or registering but two things occurred, 1.) i need some microsoft 2000 SR-1 disc inserted so is there any way around that? and 2.) there is a discrepancy on route miles. my bike pc ( cateye astrale 8, wired) shows 30.28 and that is from the house and back but just from the starting main road and back according to mapmyride is 31.25.

    ?

What are the bike functions on your Nuvi? I've got a Garmin 705 which I love longtime.

  13. bump for help, please.

My difference is the other way around, my comp shows more distance than mapmyride does, possibly because the calculated distance on mapmyride may not account for hills and valleys. If your comp shows less, it's probably set for the wrong wheel/tire size.

oh man, that doesn't help my case one iota..i' guess i'll try and find the paperwork/instructions but i was pretty sure i had it right. bike barn actually did it for me and i was right there but it's been around a year.

    From the manual:
"Usage Mode - Specify how you will be navigating to optimize routes: Automobile, Pedestrian, or Bicycle."

In pedestrian mode, one-way designations on such streets are ignored. Not sure how bicycle mode works, I'll do some more experimenting with it and let you know. Taking an edumacated guess, I'd think bicycle and pedestrian modes will automatically avoid multi-lane limited access highways since pedestrians and bicycles are not allowed on such roads - at least not in this state.

  17. The Horrible Hills of Elmbrook.

Well, it's as horrible as the hills get around here, at least.

  18. i clicked on the notes part ( i can't see anything without this mirosoft 2000 disc) and there is a huge discrepency in miles as on the notes part of that route some of the roads in between turns are showing 9 and 13 and whatnot miles. am i missing something other than the disc?

  19. it's showing 19.5 miles total , btw. is that right? i'm still trying to figure this whole mapmyride thing out and now i can see your route but it's still the same in the notes link.

It looks like the notes cut off - the turn on N 70th St is about a mile from the end point I put in.
