giant or trek

Ok, since the posting of my plea for help in my decision making, I took a journey through of my local bike shops. the diff between the cypress ST and the Trek 7000, is one is aluminum and the other is steel. I rode around on both and the giants is made of steel and the seat little more comfortable, but not much. The color of the bike is all black and I wanted a grey or silver. If I wanted to upgrade to aluminum, and the color, then I would of had to pay about $60 or so more. For the trek 7000, it was in a black/silver tone and its aluminum and rode what seemed to be a little more smooth. I ended up choosing the Trek. By the time I would of upgraded on the giant, it would of came out to the same price or more. It seemed to me, they were quite similar and it just came down to if what one looked better. I took it to my hardcore cyclist neighbor to test it out. He said it rides real smooth and said I made a good choice. Did I? I just want to be sure. Feel like I need more than one opinion. I know this is a small investment to other cyclists but, I just want a bike that will last me a good while.

It should last a long time (more than a decade) so long as you properly maintain it. FYI in the long run, well built steel frames will outlast an aluminum one. If you get a good steel bike the frame will last you for the rest of your life.

Trek is a reputable brand though. I don't know how long your bike will last since it's on Trek's low-end, but for my Trek I got a lifetime warranty on the frame.

It is lifetime warranty on the frame. What is your take on the Giant brand?

If you're happy and comfortable, don't worry about it.

I haven't owned a Trek but my Giant Sedona is great. It's as comfy as sitting in a Barca lounger and weighs a metric ton. It once totaled a Dodge Neon in a head-on collision.
