Here's my road bike ('08 Specialized Roubaix Compact) just after I bought it:

I'm not crazy about the Champagne paint or the vinyls, but it wound up being ~$500 less than a Secteur Elite.

The bike looks very retro. BUT does it perform? That is more important than the looks....

Heh, yeah. That's how I wound up getting over my potential fashion victim-hood to the tune of half a grand.

It's just about functionally identical to the Secteur Elite (different crank and cassette, older geometry, nicer saddle being the differences as far as I can see) and I'm very happy w/ its fit and performance for my purposes so far.

I was initially thinking about finding somewhere that could do pre-cut full body vinyls for it, but the appearance doesn't really bother me too much now.

  3. I've updated my bike since I last posted to this thread. Here are some new photos.

  4. Picked this '09 Scott Speedster s40 up about two months ago. My first road bike and I'm loving it! Especially since I got such a good deal on it.

So far I think I have put ~100 miles on it (was out of state on business for a couple weeks). Hoping to average 40ish miles a week for the next few months before I start to try some longer rides. I only have 1 30+ mile ride under my belt so far.

Nice bike! You could've done much worse with this being your first road bike purchase...

  6. Finally got around to taking a picture of my bike. $700 shipped for this sucker brand new with full Shimano 105. Got it in February and been riding as much as I can ever since. Will be crossing over 1500 miles on tomorrows ride. Only thing I've really added has been new tires since the stock ones were flatting just about every ride. These Michelin Krylion Carbons have been working great, and only one flat in about 1000 miles. Figured I'd go this route and if I was still enjoying cycling after a year I would buy a big boy bike. So far so good, and I actually enjoy the bike enough I may end up keeping it for as long as it'll keep spinning. It's a tad heavy at 24.6lbs on a bathroom scale with pedals and maintenance bag though. :o

  7. Just got my 2010 Schwinn Paramount 7 (full-carbon) at about 3pm yesterday afternoon.

Retail price was $1999, and it was on sale for $1399. I got an email from Performance Bike that I could get an additional $200 off through online orders only. I called a Performance location and they told me they would honor the $200 if I came into the store.

Yep, I walked out of Performance Bike with a full-carbon/Shimano 105 rig for $1199. 😎

  8. here is my 2006 Biache Forza. This is the stock bike, I have different pedals, saddle, seat post, and stem.

  9. No cigars to pass around, but here's the newest addition to the family. Weighed in at 16lbs 3ozs at birth about 2 weeks ago. Put the Kestrel up for adoption and she's now bringing joy to some family in the Chicago area.

Yeah, that saddle's carbon and I characterize it as a "3.5hr saddle" - that's the point where I start feeling it. Up until that point, it basically disappears beneath me. It's got a nice relief area down the middle, and in combination with the carbon seatpost the flex of both components dampens the sting of sharp bumps quite nicely - much better than expected...

  10. GTFanatic,

you're a big looking dude! Do you mind me asking how tall/heavy you are and how long yo've been riding? Us big roadies have to stick together!

  11. Here's me with my 2008 Specialized Allez Elite. Not top of the line but I love this bike. Obviously, I am a fan of Specialized bikes! The Tarmac is next. 😎

Nice bike. What kind of wheels are those?

    Thanks!

Those are the stock wheels that came with the bike - Jalco Dynamics 270's. I have never heard of them before but they have stayed true despite the rough, pothole-ridden roads in Western NY, so I can't really complain about them.

  14. I suppose it's my turn. This is my latest build. A 2006 Eddy Merckx MXM with 2010 SRAM Force groupset.

Running gear is Dura Ace 7800 with Kysyrium SL wheels.

  18. New to me 2006 Bianchi L'una...White carbon that shines iridescently in the sun, full Campy Chorus...Sexy Italian Supermodel!
