  1. I went to my local bike shop on black Friday and they had 10% off all their bikes, so I went with the 2010 Trek 1.1. Its my first road bike so we will see how it goes. I was very close to getting a Specialized Allez with a carbon fork, but it was a bit out of my price range right now.

So I need some info on swapping my fork for a carbon, right now the entire thing is aluminum, and the roads out where I live are pretty tough. So sometime in the future I think I would like to upgrade the fork. Other than that I dont think I will upgrade anything else, I will probably just see how it goes and invest in a better bike down the road, no pun intended.

Ride it first....If it feels harsh, take a few PSI outta the tires.

  3. Unfortuneately after market carbon forks are not very cheap. In this case it would have been worth it to purchase a 1.2 as it would be significantly cheaper overall than purchasing a carbon fork down the road for the 1.1. If you feel that the ride is a bit too harsh for your liking then your best bet. as stated by Peter, would be to let some air out of the tires. Running 90-100 PSI instead of 110-120 PSI will take away a very small bit of efficiency but will provide a much softer ride. I would recommend riding with lower tire pressure instead of upgrading the fork. Save any money you have set aside for a carbon fork and use it towards your next bike, or invest it in a nice pair of bib shorts and gloves (both of which will also improve your comfort on the bike.

  4. Yeah after I did some research I figured it wouldn't be worth it to upgrade the fork. My dad rides an all aluminum frame and he weighs a little more than I do, and he says he doesn't have much of a problem, he rides the roads of the southwest Chicago suburbs which are probably worse than the roads where I live.
