Looking to buy a hybrid bike

Both will have components with similar quality. Because they both come with free tuneups I would go with the Bike Shop that you get the best feelings from after all this is where you will go for service.

Personally I like the lines of the trek better.

The Specialized looks much nicer! Are you able to take them both for a short ride? it could be worth seeing if you can, before handing over the cash.

I was in same dilema when I searched for hybrids also. But I was choosing between Kaitai (Gary Fisher) and 7100 (Trek series).
Because those two I found the best for my needs. Ppl suggested me Kaitai, because he has better shifters and disc brakes and that was the problem. More speed, high-tech brakes and more stuff on bike it just brings more glitches and problems (I tested a few before those two and Nakamura hybrid was the worst one), the same thing is with cars. So you need to put on the paper what you need, I've done something like this (I asked myself a few questions):

1. For which type of terrain I need a bike?
2. Will I be able to repair him? ( Because if you are in middle of nowhere, there is no towns or bike shops where you can go and repair your bike)
3. How many tools I need to carry for repair?
4. Could I carry him? Is he heavy?
5. Is he strong enough?
6. Computing my body figure and bike figure will aerodinamics be nice or bad?

So I went for 7100 trek, 7-speed and old type v-brake system. You can repair your bike whenever you need to, you don't need to search for anyone.

Also you have enough space on 7100 to put SRAM 8-speed. But I don't need it. I've got some problem with shifters later, and guy in the repair shop told me that for new one I need to pay, and I didn't want to because I don't want new shifter not even new bike I need to know what is the problem so I can learn about how to fix it, because bike is perfect for my body and it is easy to move with him driving on cliffs. So I searched through google and found some shifter schemes on russian. I dismantled my bike in pieces and manage to create something a little different, so I created limits for my shifters inside shifters, so I am not deciding anymore how far my shifters will move, but shifters itself - in that way I was able to throw away all wheel protections, chain protections and so on - (less parts on the bike, less glitches). Day after I went to buy some upgrades for bike, and guy asked me will I bring my bike or buy a new one. I just smiled. So that was my story with deciding to buy a Trek, maybe it will help you to choose, maybe not, but all bikes needs to be set by driver itself. If you decided already, I hope you are satisfied with your new bike. 🙂

The 7.2 FX (and 7.1, for that matter) and the Sirrus are very good bikes.

Take 'em for a short test ride and see which one makes you want to ride it more. Personally, I favor the Treks because I think they're a little snappier in the handling department, but your needs and impressions are probably different.

I tested the Trek 7.2 ................ I bought the Sirrus.
It just feels sooooooo smooth, soooooo solid.
