Guys,
I'm a Cat 4 racer that has had a horrible winter... family emergencies and illnesses have really taken a toll on my riding. My CTL is hovering near 22 but usually stays close to 75 when I'm able to ride more, about 7-8 hrs/wk in the summer. I know that kind of ctl will limit my performances but that's what I can do right now.
Next week I'm going to the mid-west for 3 weeks of training for work, basically my personal little camp.
Besides my work training, I'll basically have about 3 hrs available to ride on the weekdays and pretty much unlimited time on the weekends.
What would be the best use of my time considering that I'd like to raise my ctl as quickly as possible? I'd like to have some good form by mid-July but I'm not really looking to peak for a particular event.
I do like group rides and several competitive ones are available where I'm going, pretty much Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
I'm a heavier rider, do well in windy conditions or rolling terrain, and have a very good sprint but climbs kill me during races although I like climbing. Last year my 20-min ftp was about 310w and I weigh about 195.
I'm really torn because I don't know if I should concentrate on losing weight, do gobs of base miles, or basically "race" into form with the groups.
Thanks for any suggestions.
