I will be moving to the East Bay from Guam. I have no idea of where yet, but my office is near Richmond. I'm an avid road biker looking to join a bike club for group rides and occasional events (road rides/race). Any suggestions for where to live that is near a good ride or bike club hub?

East Bay... as in San Francisco Bay Area?
Here's a list of most of the clubs in NorCal.
Remember - in Richmond, careful where you ride and kevlar vests are always a good idea 😉 Just kidding about the vests but not about where to ride - it ranks just behind Compton and Oakland as the most violent cities in Cali and fairly high in the top ten in the US. Point Richmond is "quaint" and is quite nice.
Guam to Richmond - that has to be a work move, no?
-
Correct on several accounts - East SF Bay area...thinking to move probably around Walnut Creek; work move with the Post Office. I've worked in Compton, so I get the comparison. I didn't realize it was that bad in Richmond, but no matter...I have a Kevlar vest and a few other goodies (I guess that kind of gives away my occupation).
I race in the 45-50 bracket, and I usually place in the top 5 in my age bracket out here (usually #1 or #2 in age bracket actually). I have a feeling that will change when I get back to civilization. Not that Guam doesn't have some good riders, but just not the abundance. I'm looking forward to the challenge. I know there are also bigger hills to climb which is why I'm also looking at areas near Walnut Creek - Mount Diablo is right nearby.
I noticed a previous post mentioning a Diablo bike club which is intriguing, but I didn't see it on the list (thank you for the list). I did see a Fremont Bank Cycling Team (also Forward Motion Racing and Christian Cycling), but they sounded like they required a competitive commitment. Any information about the level and temperament of the riders in these or other nearby clubs would be appreciated. I'm competitive, but I'm beyond the years to be considered for any type of award. This is supposed to be fun, right?

It's all fun 😉
There's lots of racing teams around the area - if you trawl through the season schedule and the results you might be able to find which ones close by are more sucessful. I know that Wells Fargo sponsor a team that has a lot of riders in the East Bay - Contra Costa Cycling. They look one of the sharper teams that I've seen...
Norcal cycling calendar:
ncnca.orgjuniorsOpen ↗It says juniors in the link but I'm guessing their web guy just got lazy... It's an all ages calendar.
Post Office and kevlar vest and other goodies, huh - so you're the guy that's paid to shoot people that tries to break into the mailboxes and rip off peoples checks and packages! 😉 Where do I apply... 🙂

We're accepting applications believe it or not.
Wow...big difference between the Guam calendar and the big city calendar. I'm actually not that surprised, but a bit overwhelmed after being out here for so long.
Check out our calendar:

Thanks for the references. I think I'm just going to have to wait to see how it all falls out once I get there.
later.
