Wheelset recommendation please...

I would take most internet reviews with a (big) grain of salt. Research shows that most random reviews of this sort tend to skew to the negative, becasue the majority of people who feel they should give a review tend to be those who have had negative experiences. Those who are content with the product are less likely to write reviews in the first place.

As far as your wheels are concerned: the R500 are about as good as any wheel at this pricepoint. If you want something better in a factory wheel you will need to pay more.

The best option at the budget end is to get some wheels handbuilt at your local shop from the parts of your choosing. To get anywhere near the same durability in a factory wheel you will need to pay a LOT more.

Are you buying the bike from Performance Bicycle.com? Will they make an exchange? Most mail order places will not do that with a bike equipped a certain way from the manufacture, so you better find that out first.

This is true. One way to test this theory is check the reviews of products you are happy with.

I've been checking various product reviews and found a lot of people posting with positive reviews, so I don't think that's completely true, not saying it's completely false, just not completely true.

True may be a little overstated. Unhappy customers are generaly more vocal. When was the last time you were at the check out and someone was raving how happy they were with the cashier?

Actually if you ever read reviews on the web you will discover a lot of people today post positive comments. I check reviews routinely on all sorts of stuff before I buy, so far they've been right...way better then using Consumer Reports that I'm sure now have been bought off.
