    Firstly Im glad to have found is forum,

    My name Nigel and im 16 (soon), Im looking on purchasing a new bike for my birthday with my savings ! 🙂

    This is not my first bike, I own a Fuji Nevada 2.0 as my first bike, this will be my second one.

    Im currently looking at the Specialized Epic Comp Carbon 29er and the StumpJumper FSR Elite. These two bikes fit right into my budget im looking at,

    Can anyone state a pros and cons for both bikes?

    What do you think of the two bikes stated above?

    I mostly do xc, sometimes I'll do some trails behind my house, but once a month I'll do downhill,

    Both bikes are pretty awesome. The best thing that you can do is test ride both of them and buy the one that you like best.

    If it were my bike, I would shy away from a CF frame MTB, especially since you do an occasional downhill. CF is just a little too brittle for me to be comfortable riding it in an event where I have a good chance of crashing it. But 29ers have such a better ride off road, so I would probably go with an Epic Comp 29er and use the left over bucks for some good accessories.

    About fit, you might feel that you are as big as you are going to get at age 16, but I'll bet that you will be gaining another inch or two before you reach your final height, so you might want to get a little larger frame that what is optimum for you right now. That way, you will grow into the bike rather than out grow it rather shortly.
