Hi everyone! I'm a student at Parsons New School for Design and we are working on developing a bicycle app. This app would allow users to create a (facebook-like) profile and connect with other bicyclists (we based the prototype off NYC). There would be up-to-date traffic and accident reports and directions to get you safely to your destination. We have found safety a huge issue for bicyclists in NYC and there for included a bike path map and the ability to save your typical routes. The app includes a forum (similar to this one) and a section to buy/sell bikes/gear as well as local bike stores in case of stolen bikes or broken pieces. There is also a pedometer that tracks miles cycled and the more you bike the more you get back (bike X miles and receive 20% off gear). Attached is a pdf of our prototype. Nice concept for an urban cyclist. Living in a rural area I would only need the cycling gps and data storage features. You may find more interest if you break up the apps into a forum app and separate cycling app. They could be downloaded separately and joined into one if the end user chooses to do so. Giving the end user the option of customizing may spark more interest.
Thanks for your feedback! We are thinking that instead of two different options, there would be a checklist during the download where the user can check off which features he/she would like. This would make the app customizable, as well as uncluttered (no excess features).
