Hello, im new on servicing STI levers, the name plate on both my levers have been damaged after an airplane vacation trip, silly me i didn't loose the handlebars on the go trip, what is the function of the big screw up front that these plates cover ? is it to install the mechs cables ? im asking because i reinstalled the name plates using glue,

sorry i meant brake's cables

The entire shifter mechanism sits on a column inside the "head" and is held together with that screw. The brake mechanism is behind the shifter assembly (inside the hood), all riding on the brake lever.
It's fine if you aren't going to service (disassemble) the levers.
